What time is check‑in and check‑out?
Check‑in is from 2.00pm and check‑out is by 10.00am. If you’re arriving early or need a later check‑out, let us know and we’ll help where possible, subject to availability.​

Where are you located?
Kelvin Hotel sits right in Invercargill’s city centre, just a short walk to the Civic Theatre, Invercargill Central and many cafes, shops and offices. The airport is about a 10 minute drive away.​

What room types do you have?
We have a mix of small double, standard queen, twin and triple rooms, premium rooms, suites and a three‑bedroom apartment, so you can choose what best suits your needs.

Are you suitable for families?
Yes. Some rooms can accommodate extra beds or cots, and we offer triple and family options. Please let us know the ages of your children so we can recommend the best room type.​

Is parking available?
Yes. Free off‑site parking is available for guests – about 100m from the property. The team at reception will direct you to the carpark when you arrive. Please ensure you provide us with your vehicle’s licence plate number. There is a height restriction of 2.1m at the entrance to the parking building so we may not be able to accommodate vans or vehicles with roof racks. 

Is Wi‑Fi included?
Complimentary Wi‑Fi is available throughout the hotel. Connection details are provided at check‑in and in your room.​

What in‑room facilities do you offer?
Rooms typically include heating, private bathroom, TV, mini‑fridge, tea/coffee‑making facilities, hairdryer and free cots/infant beds on request where available.

Do you have room service?
Room service is available during selected hours, offering dishes from our kitchen. Please see the in‑room information or ask reception for current menus and times.​

Is breakfast available?
Yes. Breakfast is available in the hotel, with options ranging from continental to cooked/buffet. Weekday breakfast usually runs 6.30–9.30am, and 7.00–10.00am on weekends.​

Are pets allowed?
Pets are generally not permitted, with the exception of approved service animals. If you have a specific request, please contact the hotel team.​

 

Editor’s Cut Sports Bar

 

What is Editor’s Cut?
Editor’s Cut is Kelvin Hotel’s ground‑floor sports bar – the only inner‑city sports bar in Invercargill – featuring a large HD screen, multiple TAB screens, bottle store, gaming machines and a relaxed, street‑front atmosphere.​

Who can visit Editor’s Cut?
Everyone. You do not have to be a hotel guest – locals and visitors are welcome to drop in for a drink, a meal and the game.​

Do you show live sport and racing?
Yes. Editor’s Cut shows a wide range of live sport and racing, with TAB facilities on site. If there’s a particular match or event you’re keen on, call ahead to check it will be screened.​

Do you serve food in the bar?
Yes. There is a casual bar menu available – ideal for lunch, watching the game, or a relaxed catch‑up.​

Do you have TAB and gaming?
Editor’s Cut has the only inner‑city TAB, with six screens and both self‑service and staff‑operated terminals, as well as gaming machines. Please enjoy these responsibly.​

Can I reserve a table for a big game?
For major matches or events it’s best to get in touch and see if we can reserve a space for your group.​ We’re here to help!

 

Level One Restaurant and Bar

What is Level One?
Level One is Kelvin Hotel’s contemporary restaurant and bar, showcasing the best of Southern cuisine and indulgent desserts, paired with a strong drinks list.​

When is Level One open?
The restaurant is typically open Monday to Saturday from 4.30pm. Level One Bar opens daily from 4.30pm for drinks, cocktails and tapas style bar food. Hours may change on public holidays.​

Do I need to book?
Bookings are recommended for dinner, especially on weekends or for larger groups. You can book online, by phone or at reception.​

Can people who aren’t staying at the hotel dine here?
Yes. Level One is open to both hotel guests and locals – everyone is welcome.​

    We can cater for many dietary needs, including gluten‑free and other requirements. Please let us know your needs when you book or when you arrive.​

Is there a children’s menu?
Yes, there is.

Can hotel guests charge meals and drinks to their room?
Yes. Hotel guests can charge Level One purchases to their room. Just let the team know your room number when you order.​

Do you offer set menus for groups or functions?
Yes. Set menus and tailored options are available for group dinners, celebrations and work functions. Please talk to our team about your requirements.​

Yes. Kelvin Hotel is one of Invercargill’s most popular wedding venues, offering ceremony space, reception venue, catering, bar service, accommodation and parking (subject to availability) all under one roof. The 6th Floor Function Room seats up to 100 guests for a seated reception. Our experienced events team takes care of every detail to make your day seamless and stress-free.

 

What is included in the $1,450 wedding reception hire package?

The reception hire package includes:

  • Dedicated Event Manager and wait staff for the full day
  • All house furniture, white or black linen tablecloths and napkins
  • Full glassware, cutlery and crockery
  • Licensed bar service until midnight
  • In-house sound system and microphone
  • Honeymoon suite with complimentary wine and chocolates

Can I add an indoor wedding ceremony at Kelvin Hotel?

Yes. An indoor ceremony can be added to any wedding package for an additional $250. Kelvin Hotel can facilitate your ceremony, pre-reception drinks, and full reception all in one location — a convenient, stress-free option whatever the Southland weather brings.

 

Does Kelvin Hotel offer wedding catering and bar service?

Yes. Full in-house catering and licensed bar service is provided for all weddings. Our kitchen team — who also run Level One Restaurant — will create a menu tailored to your taste and budget, from multi-course sit-down dinners to buffets and canapé receptions. The licensed bar is included until midnight in the standard reception package.

Can Kelvin Hotel cater for conferences and training days?

Absolutely. Kelvin Hotel is Invercargill’s go-to conference and training venue, with six function rooms accommodating groups from 4 to 180 people. We offer configurable room layouts, AV and technology hire, in-house catering for morning teas, working lunches and refreshment breaks, high-speed WiFi, and free on-site parking parking (subject to availability). Our experienced events team will work with you to design a day that runs smoothly from start to finish.

What is the Boardroom capacity and what is it used for?

The Boardroom is located on the ground floor and offers a professional, private setting. It is ideal for corporate meetings, management training, board sessions, and interviews.

What is the Hokonui Room suitable for?

The Hokonui Room is a compact ground floor space accommodating up to 6 people boardroom-style. It is perfect for one-on-one interviews, small team check-ins, breakout sessions during a larger conference, or use as a private workspace during a multi-day event.

 

Can Kelvin Hotel host hybrid or video conference events?

Yes. We offer a Zoom/Teams-ready television for hire at $60 per day, a Conference Phone at $35 per day, and complimentary high-speed WiFi throughout all function spaces. This enables seamless connection with remote participants anywhere in New Zealand or internationally.

Can I bring my own food or beverages to an event at Kelvin Hotel?

Unfortunately not. Kelvin Hotel policy requires that only hotel-supplied food and beverages are consumed on the premises. This applies to all events including conferences, functions, and weddings. Our catering team can build a menu package to suit any budget and dietary requirement.

Does Kelvin Hotel cater for dietary requirements?

Yes. Our kitchen team accommodates a wide range of dietary needs including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and common food allergies. Please advise our events team of any dietary requirements when confirming final guest numbers — due one week before your event.

What is the Level One Restaurant and can it be used for private functions?

Level One Restaurant is Kelvin Hotel’s on-site restaurant, showcasing the best of southern New Zealand cuisine including venison, South Island lamb, pork belly, and premium beef. For private events, Level One can host buffet dinners for up to 100 guests and works alongside the adjoining Esk Room for smaller private dining groups of up to 16.

Our team will discuss your requirements, confirm availability, arrange a site visit if needed, and prepare a tailored proposal. All bookings are confirmed in writing once a deposit has been received.

Is a deposit required to secure a function room booking?

Yes. A deposit is required to secure your booking. For weddings, a $400 deposit is due within one month of confirming your date. For other functions and events, our team will advise on the deposit amount at the time of enquiry. Your booking is only confirmed once the deposit has been received and written confirmation issued.

What is the cancellation policy for events and weddings?

Kelvin Hotel’s cancellation policy:

  • More than 12 months before the event: Full refund (unless planning work has already been undertaken)
  • Less than 12 months before the event: Refund at management’s discretion only

We strongly recommend taking out event cancellation insurance for all bookings, particularly for weddings and large functions.

When do I need to confirm final guest numbers?

  • Final event details (menu choices, room layout, AV needs, special requests) — due one month before your event
  • Final guest numbers — due one week before your event

Numbers confirmed at the one-week mark will be the minimum number catered and charged for, even if actual attendance is lower on the day.

Are there extra charges for events on public holidays or late nights?

Yes. Additional charges apply for events held on New Zealand public holidays, and for any function that runs past midnight. Our events team will outline any applicable surcharges in your proposal.

Does Kelvin Hotel offer accommodation for conference and wedding guests?

Yes. Kelvin Hotel has 61 well-appointed guest rooms including King Deluxe Suites, two Superior Suites with separate living areas, Classic Rooms, and a three-bedroom apartment — all on-site. Every room includes high-speed broadband, SKY TV and a work desk.  Special accommodation rates are available for wedding guests and conference delegates — ask our team when making your enquiry.

Is there parking available for event guests?

Yes. Complimentary car parking is available for function and event guests, subject to availability. The hotel is centrally located at 20 Kelvin Street, Invercargill in the heart of the CBD.
